Simon was born in East London and brought up in Essex. After starting work at sixteen in Lloyd's of London, he spent the next forty-two years working in the insurance industry in Europe and East Africa. He got married for the second time in June 2016 after Esmilly delivered twin boys, Travers and Talbot, in November 2015. He is British and, after a long spell in Kenya, retired to the Isle of Skye in 2016. He is a bad golfer, a supporter of Tottenham Hotspur, and an avid fan of good single malt whisky. Simon's first novel, Less Than One a Year, was published in March 2014, and his second, A Place by the Sea, in October 2015. His third novel, Last Orders in Nanyuki, was published in November 2017.
